Web Sites and Apps

*Animatch: This matching game features around 30 farm and safari animal cards to flip and match just like the memory game without the hassle of losing the cards. When kids succeed at a match, they'll hear cool animal sounds and see the animals do a cute jiggle. This app helps with developing concentration, memorization, and cognitive skills. (We also suggest playing the real version of memory with your child. This one is just portable.)

*Bed Time math: http://www.bedtimemath.org or you can get the app for your smart phone.

Bed time math is appropriate for 3-year-olds. It is a daily word problem that is leveled. It provides background information for the problem as well as instant feedback with the correct answer. I recommend working through the problems together. It is a great set-up for Common Core and understanding how to solve problems.

*PBS Kids Video: This app has many PBS videos available for your child to watch on the go; be mindful that not all PBS kids' shows are suitable for all ages. Some of the shows are for older children (4-6).

School Readiness Programs (Ages 0-5)

The Early Learning Specialist is available to assist parents, guardians, preschools, and childcare providers with the knowledge, skills, and tools they need to effectively mold preschool students into lifelong learners who are adequately prepared for kindergarten and beyond. There is a regularly updated website with information.  There is also a district-wide kindergarten registration meeting in February, 2017. Additional trainings will be provided throughout the year.  Individual conferences are also available on an as needed basis.  We also provide health and development screenings.

These holidays range from penguin day to hamburger day. These days can create a lot of fun, teachable moments. Each month I will highlight one holiday and give some suggestions of how you and your child can celebrate the day. The most recent holiday will be at the top of the list.
